CURRENTLY ON HOLD but ... If the Government's 'Roadmap out of Lockdown - Step 3' goes according to planned timescales then from 17th May we should be able to offer some activities that meet the 'Rule of 30' for meeting in outdoor places.
Kelling Heath for Nightjars
Wednesday 9 June 2021
8.30pm – 10.30pm
Meet: Kelling Heath car park off Holgate Hill, Holt NR25 7ER, OS Explorer TG 100419, between the Kelling Estate garden centre (ex-EMCY) and Weybourne. The slightly obscured turn into the car park is on the western side of the road in a dip near the summit. The walk will be about 1 mile
This will be a specialist walk with the prime aim of seeing Nightjars coming out of their daytime roosts to feed at dusk. In recent years the heath has had several pairs of Nightjars and so our chances of seeing several birds as the sun goes down are very high. Before it gets dark we have good chances of seeing Turtle Dove, Woodlark, Stonechat, Garden Warbler, Bullfinch, tit flocks, Chiffchaff and perhaps a Dartford Warbler
Please respect social distancing on the walk. Binoculars are essential to gain full enjoyment from your birding. The leader will carry a telescope on most walks but for personal use only. If you would like to use a telescope during the walk please bring your own along, they can be very useful. Stout footwear is recommended as paths may be slippery or muddy particularly after rain. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Sorry no dogs except guide dogs.
