Evening Nightjar walk at Kelling Heath with Janice Darch
Tuesday 16th June
8:30pm to 10:30pm

Meeting Point: Kelling Heath car park off Holgate Hill, Holt NR25 7ER, OS Explorer: TG 100419, between the Kelling Estate garden centre (ex-EMCY) and Weybourne. The slightly obscured turn into the car park is on the western side of the road in a dip near the summit.
Note: Walking boots are advised as are long sleeves and long trousers no matter how warm a night it is and it might be worth bringing some insect repellent as biting insects can be a nuisance. You may find a torch handy for our return walk to the cars. The walk is aimed at birders of all abilities.
Distance: Approximately 1 mile

Description: This will be a specialist walk with the prime aim of seeing Nightjars coming out of their daytime roosts to feed at dusk. In recent years the heath has had several pairs of Nightjars and so our chances of seeing several birds as the sun goes down are very high. Before it gets dark we have good chances of seeing Turtle Dove, Woodlark, Stonechat, Garden Warbler, Bullfinch, tit flocks, Chiffchaff and perhaps a Dartford Warbler

Children are welcome if accompanied by well-behaved adults, but we regret no dogs. To keep the club's carbon footprint small, please consider car sharing.
