Blakeney & Cley Circuit Walk with Janice Darch
Saturday 16th November
9:30am to 1:00pm
Meeting Point: Meet at Blakeney Village Hall free car park Langham Road (B1156), Blakeney NR25 7PG, OS Explorer Sheet 251: TG 026 437
Note: The walk is flat throughout and at this time of year it can be very cold on the marshes so bring warm clothes and wear walking boots. Telescopes will be very useful if you have one
Distance: 3.5 miles
Description: First we will explore Blakeney Harbour which at this time of year is good for waders including Shelduck, Oystercatchers, Cormorants and sometimes a diver or a Shag. We will then walk the North Norfolk Coastal Footpath between Blakeney and Cley to explore the Blakeney Fresh Marshes which should allow us fine views of waders and wildfowl wintering on the marshes along with harriers and other raptors overhead. Sometimes groups of linnets may be hiding rarer birds such as one or more Lapland Buntings. By mid November the Brent and Pink-footed Geese will have returned along with Black-tailed Godwits, Dunlin, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Pochard and Tufted Duck. Our return will be on the permissive paths through the woodlands by Wiverton Hall Cafe and Friary Hills.
Children are welcome if accompanied by well-behaved adults, but we regret no dogs. To keep the club's carbon footprint small, please consider car sharing.
