Wednesday 6 June 2018 - 8pm to 10pm
We will meet at the Kelling Heath car park off Holgate Hill, Holt NR25 7ER, Grid Reference OS ODL TG 100419, between the Kelling Estate garden centre (ex-EMCY) and Weybourne. The slightly obscured turn into the car park is on the western side of the road in a dip near the summit. This will be a specialist walk with the prime aim of seeing Nightjars coming out of their daytime roosts to feed. In recent years the heath has had several pairs of Nightjars and so our chances of seeing several birds as the sun goes down are very high. Another species we may see at dusk is roding Woodcock. Before it gets dark we have good chances of seeing Turtle Dove, Woodlark, Stonechat, Garden Warbler, tit flocks and perhaps Bullfinch. Walking boots are advised as are long sleeves and long trousers no matter how warm a night it is and it might be worth bringing some insect repellent as biting insects can be a nuisance. You may find a torch handy for our return walk to the cars. The walk is aimed at birders of all abilities. Children are welcome if accompanied by well-behaved adults, but we regret no dogs. To keep the club's carbon footprint small, please consider car sharing. Leader Janice Darch
