North East Norfolk Bird Club

Ridlington inc. part of Crostwight Heath

A small village about a mile and a quarter inland from Walcott and a couple of miles west of Happisburgh. Surrounded by a good mix of habitats including the northern section of Crostwight Heath, it should be worth a visit.
Crostwight Heath is a mixed habitat south of Ridlington and Ridlington Street, with areas of Birch and Oak surrounding the central heathland. There are several paths through the heath, including two public footpaths. Unfortunately the club boundary limits recording to just the northern section. Heath Road running east / west is outside our area but does offer limited parking at its western end before the stream running north / south. The heath has a good mix of woodland birds - tits, woodpeckers, warblers, finches and treecreeper plus the occasional raptor passing over. Woodcock have been recorded on the site but were not found in the latest survey.
Other habitats: arable farmland, gardens, grassland, hedgerows, river and woodland.
