North East Norfolk Bird Club

Felbrigg Park & Lake

Felbrigg Park has been open to the public since the Hall and grounds were given to the National Trust in the early 1970s. There is a variety of habitat including mixed woodland, deer park, newly restored heath, sheep pastures and arable. The Scarrow Beck flows through the estate, which was dammed in the mid 18th C. to create an ornamental lake - with a reed-bed at its northern end. The latest habitat restoration work has been to recreate the old course of the beck, which now forms a seasonal water meadow. With it's strategic location close to the coast and the recognised 'fly-way of the Holt - Cromer ridge, the Felbrigg Estate has attracted over 200 species. Rarities have included Collard Pratincole, Black Stork, Rough-legged Buzzard, Glossy Ibis, White-winged Black Tern, Pallid Swift and Pallas's Warbler.

An NENBC book, describing the location and birdlife in detail is available from the Club Secretary.
