Barningham Hall Lake (no public access)

Image of Barningham Hall Lake (no public access) birding site

This site is not open to the public but it is possible to scan the northern end of the lake through the trees, and there is also a flooded area at the northern end that can easily be seen from the public footpath. Park on the grass verge at the entrance to Dairy Farm and walk south keeping the farm buildings on your left. The footpath passes the cattle pens and a narrow gap allows you to access the field that leads towards the church via a stile. Although the footpath crosses diagonally across the field (where there is a wring that it contains a bull!) to the small cottage on the other side at Hammond's Wood, it is possible to walk around the edge of the field and past the church, before cutting across to the cottage. A short path then passes through the woodland and leads to the minor road to Bessingham. Turn left opposite Wells Cottage and return to the entrance to Dairy Farm along the road.
